RANIA J Cuir Andalou is an Eau de Parfum launched in 2016, created by Rania Jouaneh. RANIA J's Cuir Andalou carries an Acquired verdict, a woody-led wear.

A divisive leather, Cuir Andalou is lauded for its raw, animalic authenticity by some, while others find it too linear, challenging, or simply uninspired. Definitely one to test before buying.

Top, heart and base are the brand's own listing, not a timing claim - the industry classifies a note by its character as much as by how fast it fades. Each curve here is modelled from that material's own volatility, so groups can overlap when a house lists long-lasting materials in its heart.

A cold-weather scent - best worn in winter and autumn.

Formal

Its long-lasting nature and potent opening make it less ideal for the office. However, its complex, sensual leather profile and suitability for colder nights lend it well to date nights and formal evening wear, though it's too heavy for casual daytime use or sport.

Declarable allergens

We derive these from the materials behind this fragrance's notes, not from the bottle. Each one is likely, not confirmed. The list is partial - the box can name others.

In standard patch-test panels

  • Geraniol from Rose

Other declarable allergens

  • Bitter orange peel Citrus Aurantium Amara Peel Oil from Neroli
  • Citrus Aurantium Dulcis Flower Oil from Neroli
  • Neroli Citrus Aurantium Amara Flower Oil from Neroli
  • Sandalwood Santalol from Sandalwood

The large name is the everyday one. The small name is the INCI form on the box, so you can compare the two. Reactions differ between people. A patch-test panel is not a ranking of risk. How we derive this

About

Cuir Andalou throws you headfirst into a rugged, untamed leather, stark and almost gasoline-like at first. It quickly settles, woven with the earthy depth of oud and vetiver, and softened by a subtle floral heart of iris and violet. As it evolves, the saffron adds a hint of exotic spice, while a base of sandalwood and patchouli grounds it in warm, woody elegance. The animalic castoreum note persists, giving it a raw, carnal edge throughout its life.
