Affinessence

French niche house built around amplified base notes and rich, long-lasting accords.

About Affinessence

Affinessence is a French niche perfume brand created by Sophie Bruneau in 2013. Bruneau previously worked as a marketing director involved in the development and launch of numerous perfumes and cosmetic products before deciding to build her own house focused on her long-standing obsession with scent. The company is based in France and combines creative direction with consulting work in fragrance and marketing.

The first Affinessence perfumes appeared in 2015 with the Base Notes Collection, a line built explicitly around traditionally supporting materials such as sandalwood, oud, patchouli, vanilla and benzoin. Instead of using these ingredients only as fixatives, the brand places them in the spotlight, resulting in dense, long-lasting compositions. Flagship fragrances like Santal-Basmati, Cuir-Curcuma and Cedre-Iris illustrate this idea by pairing rich woods or resins with unexpected accords such as basmati rice or turmeric.

Affinessence works with well-known perfumers including Alexandra Carlin, Fabrice Pellegrin, Nathalie Lorson, Corinne Cachen, Nicolas Bonneville and Margherita Carini to translate this base-centered concept into wearable perfumes. Many of the scents are designed to stand alone or be layered, and retailers commonly highlight their intensity and 6-8 hour longevity on skin. The range has expanded beyond the initial Base Notes Collection but continues to orbit around deep, sensual raw materials and a clearly French niche aesthetic.

Brand Evolution

Affinessence launched with the Base Notes Collection in 2015, setting out a clear concept of base-dominant compositions. Over time, the brand has expanded the range of raw materials and accords it uses while maintaining its emphasis on depth and longevity. Later releases show a bit more versatility and transparency yet still revolve around woods, resins and rich spices rather than chasing mass-market trends.

Quick Verdict

Affinessence is a strong choice if you like dense, wood-and-resin centered niche fragrances and are willing to pay luxury prices. If you prefer bright, casual scents or want easy department-store access, this house will feel too heavy and too niche-focused.
