Gallivant

London-based indie house creating city-inspired, unisex perfumes in travel-sized formats.

About Gallivant

Gallivant is an independent perfume brand based in London, created by Nick Steward and officially launched on 8 March 2017, International Women’s Day. Steward brought to the project more than two decades of industry experience, including a period as product and creative director at L’Artisan Parfumeur and earlier roles with beauty groups such as Puig and L’Oréal. From the outset Gallivant focused on compact, travel-friendly bottles and a tightly edited collection of unisex scents.

The core concept is city-inspired perfumery. Each fragrance is built around a specific urban destination that has personal meaning for Steward, starting with London, Brooklyn, Tel Aviv and Istanbul in the initial launch collection, with Amsterdam and Berlin following soon after. Later additions have included Tokyo and other locations, all composed with independent perfumers at Art et Parfum in Cabris, near Grasse. The concentrates are developed in France and the finished products are handmade in the United Kingdom.

Gallivant emphasizes a “small, independent business” approach: vegan formulas, cruelty free production, and a stated focus on thoughtful material choices, combining naturals with synthetics as appropriate. The brand positions its scents as quietly composed rather than ostentatious, aligning with a slow, deliberate development process rather than high-volume launches. Its perfumes have received multiple awards and are now stocked in numerous countries, while retaining the founder-led, London-based structure that defined the brand at launch.

Citrus Woody Aromatic Musky Floral
  • Gallivant scents tend to be nuanced and urbane rather than overpowering, with an emphasis on atmosphere and sense of place over overt sensuality or heavy sweetness
  • They often balance contemporary musks, airy woods and crisp citruses with a few carefully chosen accents that suggest specific neighborhoods, climates or times of day
  • The overall style is clean, wearable and restrained, designed to be lived in rather than to dominate a room

  • Good quality relative to price and bottle size

  • Distribution is still limited compared with big designer brands

Brand Evolution

Gallivant began in 2017 with a compact set of six city fragrances and a strong emphasis on 30 ml travel-sized bottles. Over time, the brand has expanded its map to include additional cities and refined its storytelling around urban exploration and slow travel. While the core DNA of unisex, understated compositions has remained, later releases often show slightly more complexity and bolder contrasts, reflecting a growing confidence in working with different perfumers and materials.

Quick Verdict

Gallivant is a smart choice if you want wearable, city-themed indie perfumes that feel considered rather than attention-seeking. If you prefer powerhouse projection or overt luxury styling, other brands will suit you better.
