Gritti
Venetian family-run niche house known for bold, story-driven extraits and rich materials.
Gritti is an Italian niche perfume house based on Venetian family heritage and led by perfumer Luca Gritti. According to the brand’s official history, the first perfumes under the Gritti family name appeared in 2009 as the Black Collection, conceived as a tribute to ancestor Alvise Gritti, a 16th‑century politician and merchant connected with early Italian perfumery. Retailers and the brand itself highlight Luca Gritti as a descendant of a noble Venetian dynasty, with the logo derived from the family coat of arms.
The brand’s early releases included unisex scent Antalya in 2010, followed by Aqua Incanta, Damascus, and Delirium, as documented by Parfumo. These launches set the tone for Gritti’s style: rich compositions with clear, often contrasting note structures, frequently blending resinous, spicy, and ambery themes with florals or fruits. Over time, the house has expanded into multiple themed lines, such as the Black Collection, White Collection, I Turchesi, Ivy Collection, and Gritti Privé.
I Turchesi, introduced after the success of White Collection bestsellers like Chantilly, Rebrodè, and Macramè, focuses on bright Mediterranean citruses; Pomelo Sorrento is cited by the brand as a key bestseller and an expression of its “luminous” signature. At the more opulent end, Gritti Privé is packaged in velvet with 24‑carat gold accents and emphasizes dense extraits built around high‑grade ingredients such as iris, amber facets, and woods. Taken together, the collections show a clear preference for bold structures, high concentration, and storytelling rooted in Venice and Italian style rather than trend‑driven releases.
A niche, luxury house known for amber compositions.
Gritti started with the darker, more dramatic Black Collection, then expanded into the White Collection with a focus on feminine-leaning florals and gourmands. Following international traction for scents like Chantilly and Macramè, the house turned toward Mediterranean brightness in I Turchesi, without abandoning its rich, long-lasting style. Recent years have seen further refinement at the top end through Gritti Privé and Ivy, pushing more luxurious concentrations and materials while keeping the Venetian narrative at the core.
This is a house for those who enjoy high-impact, story-heavy niche perfumery and do not mind sweetness or density. If you want subtle, office-safe sprays, Gritti will likely feel like too much of a good thing.
