About GROVE England

GROVE England is a British fine-fragrance house founded in 2024 by the interior designer Laura Butler-Madden, built on an unusual premise: giving a scent to the garden flowers that barely have one. Anemones and snowdrops are loved for how they look and for when in the year they arrive, not for how they smell. The house exists to compose the fragrance each of them deserves.

The idea came out of restoration work rather than perfumery. After years bringing period houses back to life, Butler-Madden went looking for a fine fragrance as carefully composed as the rooms she was designing, and could not find one. GROVE England was her answer, drawn from the seasons in her Cotswolds garden at Grove Farm and worked up with the British perfumer Richard Howard into eaux de parfum, alongside a full bath, body and home range in the same scents.

The result is quieter and more English than most niche launches. Anemone, the debut, is a green-woody white floral built on chamomile, jasmine and neroli over labdanum and cedar. Snowdrop follows it with frankincense, violet and hinoki over magnolia, sandalwood and spikenard, and reads frosted and powdery rather than sweet. Both are natural-leaning, close-wearing and seasonal by design, and both come as 50ml bottles with 7.5ml vials for travel.

The range extends well past perfume into hand cream, bath oil, body wash, candles and gift hampers, so a single scent can run through a whole house. There is now a GROVE England flagship on the market square at Stow-on-the-Wold, in the Cotswolds where the brand was conceived.

Scent DNA

Soft botanical florals - green powdery and woody-clean built on chamomile linden and magnolia with incense and pale woods underneath
  • Garden-led compositions that start from a flower with little or no scent of its own and build outwards
  • Expect chamomile's apple-hay softness, white florals kept deliberately unsweet, and quiet bases of cedar, sandalwood, labdanum and spikenard
  • Nothing here shouts

Positioning

A indie, luxury house known for soft botanical florals - green compositions.

Who It's For

Best For

  • Quiet everyday wear
  • Spring and early autumn
  • Anyone who finds most niche florals too loud

Strengths & Weaknesses

Strengths

  • A genuinely original brief - scenting botanicals that are loved for their looks rather than their smell
  • Composed with a named British perfumer rather than an anonymous white-label house
  • One scent carried across perfume, bath, body and home, so a whole room can hold the same mood
  • Made in the Cotswolds with a flagship you can walk into and smell them properly

Weaknesses

  • Only two fragrances so far, so the range is very narrow
  • A lot of money for 50ml from a house this young, though the 7.5ml vials make trying it easier
  • Soft and close-wearing by design, so anyone chasing projection will be disappointed
  • Very little independent community reviewing yet, so you are largely trusting the brand's own account

Brand Evolution

Launched in late 2024 with Anemone, a single fragrance released alongside a full bath, body and home range rather than a multi-scent debut collection. Snowdrop arrived as the second seasonal chapter, moving the house from autumn's late-blooming wind flowers to the first flowers of the year. The stated plan is to keep adding seasonal collections, each tied to a moment in the garden, which makes GROVE more of a slow-building diary than a conventional expanding line.

Quick Verdict

One of the more thoughtful British launches of recent years, and the concept genuinely shapes how these smell rather than just dressing the marketing. Both are soft, green and unsweet in a way that reads expensive rather than showy. The catch is the ask: luxury pricing and a two-scent range mean you are buying into an idea and a founder's taste as much as a fragrance. Start with a 7.5ml vial, and go to Anemone first.
