About Max Foucaut

Max Foucaut is a London menswear label that also makes perfume. It is led by the designer Max Foucaut, who was born in Paris, raised in California and now works in East London. He describes himself as a menswear designer and perfume storyteller, and the label tells stories of French heritage, Californian culture and London craftsmanship.

Foucaut graduated in menswear fashion design from Central Saint Martins and worked with a Savile Row bespoke tailor. His interest in perfume began with an old trunk of bottles at his grandparents' home. While studying, he met a master perfumer in Grasse, and that meeting led to the first Max Foucaut fragrances. The collaboration continues and the perfumes are shown internationally.

The perfumes are a single collection called Ombre, three eaux de parfum that tie a city to a fabric: London and tweed, Los Angeles and denim, Paris and silk. Ombre Vivante is a tailor's atelier in scent, with leather, honey, beeswax and tea, and is described as genderless. Ombre Solaire is sun-soaked sand and Pacific greenery with bergamot, bitter orange and vetiver. Ombre Nocturne is a Paris night of iris, coffee, blond tobacco and vanilla over a woody base.

Max Foucaut sits in fashion-led independent perfumery: a designer's first fragrance line, sold online and through a few boutiques in London, Paris, the Netherlands and the United States. It suits wearers who like fabric-inspired, story-led perfumes and buyers who already follow the clothing.
