Perfumer-led fragrances built around singular raw materials

About Ostens

Ostens is a London-rooted niche fragrance house built around identifiable raw materials and perfumer-led interpretation. Founded by industry partners Christopher Yu and Laurent Delafon, it introduced six eau de parfums called Impressions alongside a companion set of single-material oils, the Préparations.

The idea grew from the founders’ work in fragrance distribution and their exposure to natural ingredients in Grasse. Rather than prescribe a conventional brief, they invited perfumers to respond to a chosen material. The oil and perfume formats make that starting point visible: each Preparation can be worn alone or layered with an Impression, another Ostens scent or a perfume from a different house.

The Impressions cover a broad range of styles. Cashmeran Velvet is soft and close to the skin, Cedarwood Heart draws on tobacco-like woods, and Rose Oil Isparta pushes rose into a dense, fruit-touched register. Two Patchouli Heart perfumes show contrasting directions, from resinous and herbal to powdery and floral. Jasmine Absolute gives the original collection a brighter floral counterpoint.

Ostens sits in specialist niche perfumery rather than the broad designer market. Its defining idea is the meeting of a single-material prompt with the individual voice of an invited perfumer. The house suits wearers who enjoy comparing ingredients, discovering different interpretations and experimenting with fragrance layering.

Ostens began with the Impressions and matching Préparations oils, pairing a perfume with the ingredient that inspired it. The house later extended its fragrance work into candles while retaining the material-led, perfumer-centred concept.

Quick Verdict

Ostens is a concept-led niche house for wearers who want to see how one material can lead to very different perfumes. Its companion oils add a flexible layering element, while the Impressions show the creative range of invited perfumers.
