Aqualis Origin is an Eau de Parfum launched in 2016, created by Amandine Galliano. Origin opens with Spicy Notes, Rose, and Jasmine, settles into a heart of Sandalwood, Oud, Patchouli, and Saffron, and dries down to a base of Musk, Amber, Animalic, and Cedar. Aqualis's Origin carries an Acquired verdict, a woody-led wear.

A sweet, spicy rose oriental with a smoky oud, patchouli and saffron heart over vanilla, amber and musk. Long-lasting and best in autumn and winter, it is loved by most wearers but sharp and animalic to a few.

Top, heart and base are the brand's own listing, not a timing claim - the industry classifies a note by its character as much as by how fast it fades. Each curve here is modelled from that material's own volatility, so groups can overlap when a house lists long-lasting materials in its heart.

When To Wear

Best Seasons

Best For:
Autumn Winter

Winter leads and autumn follows, as the dense rose, oud smoke and vanilla suit cold weather. Spring is weak and summer is the poorest fit.

Best Occasions

Best For:
Date
Also Works:
Formal

Evenings and nights out score highest because the scent is rich and carries well. Casual wear is middling, and the office and sport are poor fits.

About

Origin is the rose-led oriental that Aqualis London launched in 2016 as one of the four fragrances in its first collection. Amandine Galliano composed it, and the brand frames it as an explosive, creative and enveloping homage to perfumery's oldest ingredients. The opening is a vivid, velvety rose with heady jasmine and a sharp, bitter flash of spice that some wearers find harsh for the first minutes. Then the rose settles, warm and sweet, and the heart turns oriental: patchouli, saffron, sandalwood and tobacco, with a smoky oud that the brand describes as plush and enveloping. Wearers disagree about the oud, and a few say they cannot find it at all, hearing woody warmth around the rose instead. The base is vanilla, amber, cedar and musk with an animalic accord. The vanilla arrives late and gives the scent a soft, almost powdery warmth. The animalic note is where opinion divides most sharply: most voters love the scent, while a small minority find it sharp, harsh and unpleasantly animal. Staying power is long, with several wearers reporting around eight hours, although a few find the projection modest. It is a cold-weather and evening scent, at its best from autumn to winter. Try it on skin before buying.
