Blossom Perfumery 053 Vanille Fatale is an Eau de Parfum. 053 Vanille Fatale opens with Saffron, Coriander, and Frankincense, settles into a heart of Barley, Narcissus, and Frangipani, and dries down to a base of Suede, Vanilla, and Tobacco. Blossom Perfumery's 053 Vanille Fatale carries an Acquired verdict, a vanilla-led wear.

053 borrows Tom Ford's Vanille Fatale wholesale - saffron, boozy frangipani, dark vanilla-tobacco - but comes across flatter and sweeter, missing the smoky resinous complexity that makes the original feel dangerous rather than just sweet.

About

053 takes on one of Tom Ford's more distinctive orientals, and the note list on paper is nearly identical to Vanille Fatale: saffron and myrrh up top, a boozy frangipani-narcissus heart, and a dark vanilla-tobacco-suede base. Worn side by side, the opening is a passable likeness - spicy, a touch resinous, clearly aiming at the same intoxicated-vanilla territory. It's in the heart and base that the dupe simplifies things considerably. Vanille Fatale's roasted-coffee, boozy-plum heart has a genuine murkiness to it, almost fermented, that reads as sophisticated rather than sweet; 053's version is brighter and more straightforwardly floral-sweet, losing that darker edge. The base tells the same story - the original's mahogany-patchouli-oakmoss combination gives real smoky, woody grit under the vanilla, while 053 leans almost entirely on a soft vanilla-tobacco blend that's pleasant but one-note by comparison. It also fades faster, settling into simple sweet vanilla within a few hours rather than holding the original's slow-burning complexity. A fun, inexpensive way to sample the boozy-vanilla trend, but it doesn't chase the real Vanille Fatale's depth.
