Givenchy's Ange ou Demon built its reputation on contrast - a bright, almost sharp opening that resolves into a dark, resinous oriental base, embodying the angel-or-demon duality in the name. No.037 follows the same arc: a zesty orange and herbal thyme opening that fades into a warm heart of saffron and rose before settling into vanilla, tonka bean, patchouli and sandalwood. The bitterness of the thyme softens faster here than in the original, and the sweetness of the vanilla-tonka base comes forward earlier, giving it a rounder, more immediately cosy character rather than the designer's slower, more dramatic reveal. Longevity is strong at close to eight hours with moderate silage, making it a good cold-weather choice for evenings where a dark, spicy-sweet oriental suits the mood. It is not a razor-precise clone but captures the mature, sensual heart of the original convincingly enough that fans of Ange ou Demon looking for an affordable everyday alternative should find it satisfying.
