Indonesian Oud released in 2012 as part of Zegna's Essenze collection, a Mediterranean-meets-Asia luxury line including Italian Bergamot, Sicilian Mandarin, Javanese Patchouli, Indonesian Oud and Florentine Iris. The composition was developed by an unusual four-perfumer team - Pierre Negrin, Frank Voelkl, Harry Fremont and Jacques Cavallier Belletrud - and centres on a Calabrian bergamot top playing into a rose-oud-myrrh heart, with an amber-patchouli-leather base. Zegna's house brief paired the Indonesian oud with Calabrian bergamot specifically to bridge the citrus brightness of Italian heritage with the deeper Asian agarwood, with a secret red-wine accord rumoured to sit in the heart adding fruity weight.
