About Maie Piou

Maie Piou is a French niche fragrance house launched in December 2023 by perfumer Jean-Charles Sommerard and co-founder and artistic director Szajna Zinenberg. The brand's first collection, Ambrogyne, comprised five gender-neutral eaux de parfum and used amber and saffron as central references to French perfumery's oriental tradition. The company is based in France, and its products are sold through the brand's website and selected niche retailers and concept stores.

Sommerard developed the compositions with independent perfumer Clémentine Humeau, while later releases were also made with Jean-Charles Sommerard. The line is built around unusual contrasts and combinations rather than a single narrow style: documented examples include Banana Oud, Bloody Neroli, Cherry Harley, Leathery Flesh, Wood You, Honey Queen, Oud Baguette, Ambery Glove, Apricot Uppercut, and Blind Whisky. The house's pricing and distribution place it in the premium-to-luxury niche segment, with its 100 ml eau de parfum bottles reported at 190 EUR at launch.

Weaknesses

Brand Evolution

The house began with the five-fragrance Ambrogyne collection in December 2023. Its subsequent releases broadened the palette into banana oud, neroli, cherry, leather, woods, honey, whisky, apricot, amber, and baguette-themed oud interpretations, indicating a rapid-release strategy built around provocative pairings rather than one fixed signature.

Quick Verdict

Maie Piou is a bold young niche house with memorable ideas and strong visual-concept appeal. The high price and uneven accessibility make sampling essential before buying.
