Origin

Milk notes are rebuilt from aroma chemicals. No one distils milk for fragrance. Lactones such as delta-decalactone and gamma-nonalactone give the creamy, fatty and sweet side. Lactones alone do not smell of milk, so perfumers add diacetyl for butter, clean musks for skin, and traces of other dairy materials.

Usage in Perfumery

Perfumers use milk in the heart and base of gourmand, floral and woody perfumes to add creaminess and a soft, edible warmth. It blends well with vanilla, coconut, almond, white florals and sandalwood. It adds depth, roundness and a comforting texture.
