No.603 opens with a juicy rush of blood orange, peach, bergamot and mandarin, sharpened with pink pepper for a fruity, sparkling start that closely follows Penhaligon's opulent Empressa. The heart brings rose, dewberry, geranium, neroli and cassis together into a rich, jammy floral bouquet, aiming for the same regal, layered feel as the original without quite matching its density. The base is where the gourmand character comes through most strongly, blending patchouli, brown sugar, musk, vanilla, sandalwood, cocoa, olibanum and amber into a warm, dessert-like finish. It's an ambitious note list for a budget dupe, and while the individual pieces are all present, the overall effect is softer and less resinous than the designer version, with the sweetness fading to a light musk rather than lingering as a rich, sugared skin scent. Still, it delivers an accessible taste of the fruity-gourmand-oriental style, best worn on cooler evenings or dates where a warm, confident, slightly indulgent scent suits the mood.
