Eden Perfumes No.477 Velvet Orchid is an Eau de Parfum. No.477 Velvet Orchid opens with Bergamot, Mandarin, and Rum, settles into a heart of Hyacinth, Orange Blossom, Rose, and Jasmine, and dries down to a base of Sandalwood, Vanilla, Labdanum, and Myrrh. Eden Perfumes's No.477 Velvet Orchid carries an Acquired verdict, a oriental-led wear.

Eden's alternative to Tom Ford Velvet Orchid keeps the rummy, orchid-forward heart intact, but the sprawling floral bouquet renders flatter and the balsamic base fades sooner than the plush, long-wearing original.

About

This fragrance is inspired by Tom Ford Velvet Orchid, one of the house's signature women's orientals. It opens soft and floral with bergamot and mandarin orange, joined quickly by rum for a warm, boozy lift reminiscent of sitting by a fire with a glass of whisky in hand. The heart is where the original's identity lives, and Eden leans into it - black orchid, rose and jasmine sit alongside orange blossom, magnolia, hyacinth, narcissus and heliotrope for a dense, citric-rummy floral bouquet. The base brings in Peru balsam, labdanum, sandalwood, myrrh and vanilla, adding an exotic warmth and helping it linger, though the balsamic richness that gives Tom Ford's version its trademark projection and multi-hour staying power is noticeably thinner here. The overall effect is still a recognisably warm, sweet, feel-good oriental floral, just rendered with less depth and shorter longevity than the designer version. Best suited to evening wear and cooler months, where its sweetness reads as inviting rather than cloying.
