Interlude is Pearl Fragrances' interpretation of Amouage Interlude Man, a fragrance reviewers describe as one of the most powerful, complex incense scents in modern perfumery. The extrait opens on the same unusual combination that makes the original instantly recognisable: bergamot alongside oregano and pimento, giving an aromatic, faintly savoury edge rather than a typical fresh citrus top. Frankincense takes over quickly, backed here by cistus and a touch of basil, echoing the smoky resinous heart that reviewers call ashen and labyrinthine in the real Interlude. The base brings in oud, leather and patchouli to suggest the original's skanky, dark drydown. What is missing is scale. Amouage's version is famous for filling a room for a full day; this dupe is a much quieter, closer-wearing version of the same idea, with the smoky frankincense character intact but the projection and staying power scaled right down. A reasonable taste of the concept rather than the real thing's overwhelming presence.
