Oud Ispahan

Oud Ispahan follows Dior's own take on the rose-and-oud genre, part of the exclusive La Collection Privee line. This extrait opens with the same ambery, slightly leathery labdanum that reviewers say is what sets the original apart from countless other rose-oud blends on the market, before a plump Damascus rose takes over in the heart alongside saffron and patchouli. That rose-labdanum pairing is where the resemblance is strongest, since it defines the character of both versions. The base brings in oud, sandalwood and cedar, but where Dior's original is built to leave what the brand calls a powerful, opulent trail, this dupe keeps the oud much more restrained, landing closer to a soft rose-amber-wood scent than a bold, room-filling oud. It captures the accessible, contemporary-chic side of Oud Ispahan that some critics already feel is more polished than truly rugged, just at a much gentler volume and a fraction of the price.
