Sharp For Women

Sharp interprets Dior's Dioressence, a landmark 1969 oriental chypre. It opens with a heavy aldehydic burst supported by green notes, bergamot, orange and a touch of fruit. The heart is a voluptuous, spicy floral bouquet - carnation, tuberose and cinnamon woven through jasmine, ylang-ylang, rose, geranium and violet. The drydown is where the original earned its reputation: a rich, earthy patchouli and oakmoss chypre base deepened by benzoin, styrax, vanilla, musk and vetiver. Against the original, this Perfume Parlour version captures the spicy-floral-chypre skeleton convincingly but renders it tamer and flatter - it loses Dioressence's commanding sillage and the animalic, full-bodied depth that makes the original a statement. Longevity is moderate where the vintage original was a sillage beast lasting most of the day. It is a sensual, old-school spicy oriental for cooler evenings, formal occasions and dates - a wallet-friendly route to that classic Dior character.
