Shiny Water Lily

Perfume Parlour Shiny Water Lily is an Eau de Parfum launched in 2013. Shiny Water Lily opens with Magnolia, Clementine, Peach, and Bergamot, settles into a heart of Tea, Hyacinth, Jasmine, and Rose, and dries down to a base of Amber, Benzoin, Styrax, and Cedar. Perfume Parlour's Shiny Water Lily carries a Favourite verdict, a floral-led wear.

A budget homage to Tom Ford's Fleur de Chine. The semi-indolic magnolia and tea-rose heart land in the right place, but Perfume Parlour smooths out the original's smoky styrax complexity into something simpler and more linear.

About

Shiny Water Lily takes its cue from Tom Ford's gentle, complex Fleur de Chine, opening with a soapy-floral salvo of magnolia, tart clementine and white peach over a whisper of bergamot. The heart blooms into demure tea-rose, hyacinth, jasmine and wisteria, with a ripe plum facet adding a fruity shadow. A soft styrax, benzoin and cedar base lends a faintly smoky warmth. The original is famous for its quiet, elegant intricacy and only moderate sillage; this clone pushes the floral opening a little louder and brighter while the smoky-balsamic drydown reads flatter and fades faster, giving roughly four hours of wear. It captures the soft-spoken Chinese-floral spirit of Fleur de Chine for pennies, sacrificing some of the niche original's subtle turns and longevity for the price.
