Strangelove NYC Dead of Night is a perfume oil launched in 2014, created by Christophe Laudamiel. Dead of Night opens with Rose, Violet Leaf, Ginger, and Damascenone, settles into a heart of Spicy Notes, Paradisone, Rose, and Jasmine, and dries down to a base of Carrot Seeds, Wolfwood, Amber, and Cedar. Strangelove NYC's Dead of Night carries an Acquired verdict, a floral-led wear.

Violet leaf, Damask rose and ginger above a deep base of oud, patchouli, incense, amber and sandalwood. Dead of Night is a dark floral-oud oil, rich, smooth and mysterious. Built for winter nights.

Top, heart and base are the pyramid as published, not a timing claim. Each note's timing follows its listed tier, where it usually sits across many published pyramids (from ScentPrism) and its vapour pressure. A note comes through as the notes usually listed before it fade, judged from how other pyramids order the same pair. The thickness of a ribbon shows the note's share of what is left on the skin, which tracks how strongly it smells, because odour thresholds rise with vapour pressure. The shares come from how prominent wearers vote each note. It is a simple model, not a measurement.

When To Wear

Best Seasons

Best For:
Autumn Winter

A warm, dense base of oud, patchouli, incense, amber and sandalwood points to autumn and winter. The green violet leaf at the start is not enough to carry it into summer.

Best Occasions

Also Works:
Date Formal

Rich, heady and strong, it suits dates and dressed-up evenings. It is too much for the office and out of place at the gym.

About

Dead of Night is a perfume oil from Strangelove NYC with a pyramid separate from its extrait, sold in 10 ml and 1.25 ml sizes. The brand's line sums it up: there is always a deep breath before a plunge into the dead of night. The deep breath is the top. Violet leaf, green foliage, Damask rose and ginger give a fresh, leafy and slightly peppery start. Then the heart moves into jasmine, spices, rose and Paradisone, and the plunge begins. The base is large: oud, patchouli, musk, tuberose absolute, carrot seed, vanilla, sandalwood, incense, amber, cedarwood and Wolfwood. The green florals sit tense against a heavy woody-resinous floor, and that tension is the interest. Reviewers call it rich, smooth and beautiful, with an earthy, damp quality and an ambery tone. Everything about it is strong. It lasts, it carries and it fills a room, and a small amount goes a long way. Autumn and winter suit it, in the evening and for dates and dressed-up occasions. It is far too heavy for the office or the gym.
