Robert Piguet
Historical French couture perfume house known for bold, characterful white florals and leathers from the 1940s revived for modern wearers.
Robert Piguet began as a Paris fashion house founded by Swiss-born couturier Robert Piguet, whose couture label operated from 1933 to 1951. He turned to fragrance during the 1940s, collaborating with perfumer Germaine Cellier. Bandit, created by Cellier in 1942 and launched in the United States in 1944, and Fracas from 1948 became defining releases, with Fracas later entering the Fragrance Foundation FiFi Hall of Fame in 2006.
Under Piguet’s supervision, additional perfumes such as Visa (1945) and Baghari (1950) expanded the portfolio. After his death in 1953 and the closure of the fashion house, the Robert Piguet name continued solely in perfumery, with later launches like Cravache (1963) and Futur in the 1960s. The brand declined in visibility until it was acquired by New York based Fashion Fragrances & Cosmetics Ltd. in 1993, which undertook a revival of the classic catalog.
Today, Robert Piguet Parfums trades on this heritage, presenting itself as “Chic. Audacious. Revolutionary.” on its official site. The company emphasizes strict standards of quality and production in France and often references a historical description of Piguet’s perfumes as having “strict adherence to good taste, true luxury, a horror of the commonplace and an innate sense of seduction.” Modern reissues and flankers of Bandit, Fracas, Visa and Baghari sit alongside newer creations, maintaining a strong link to the original mid-20th-century style.
A niche, luxury house known for white floral compositions.
The house started with daring mid-century fragrances created with Germaine Cellier, defined by leather, chypre and lush white florals. After the couture line closed, perfumery continued but gradually faded from public view until the 1993 acquisition by Fashion Fragrances & Cosmetics Ltd. The modern era has focused on restoring key classics like Fracas, Bandit, Visa and Baghari, and expanding the range with new scents that stay relatively close to the brand's historic, high-impact style while adjusting materials and concentrations to contemporary standards.
Robert Piguet is a reference point for those who enjoy unapologetically bold, vintage-style French perfumery. If you prefer subtle, office-safe scents, this house will likely feel overpowering, but for character and history it delivers strongly.
