Pomegranate Noir

Dupe Black Grenade opens with a rush of tart pomegranate, ripe plum, raspberry and watermelon, sharpened by a streak of rhubarb - a fruity, almost sour burst that mirrors the juicy opening of the Jo Malone London original it's built to echo. As the fruit settles, a dark floral heart of rose, jasmine and Casablanca lily emerges, laced with pink pepper, clove and a whisper of resinous olibanum and opoponax that hints at the incense-like character the original is loved for. The base leans smoky and earthy rather than plush: guaiacwood, patchouli and Virginia cedar sit under a soft amber-musk finish, giving the scent a woody, grown-up close without the layered richness of the higher-priced version. It wears more linear than the original - the fruit and florals stay louder for longer, while the smoky wood drydown arrives lighter and clears sooner. Best suited to cooler months and evening wear, it's a reasonable stand-in for anyone who wants the dark-fruit-and-wood idea of Pomegranate Noir without chasing the real thing.
