SMEL.' Halfeti is a budget interpretation of Penhaligon's cult rose-and-oud original. It opens with a bright, juicy rose pushed forward by grapefruit and saffron, a louder and more immediate top note than the original's cypress-and-cardamom spice. The heart settles into jasmine and nutmeg over the cypress, keeping the rose central rather than letting it recede behind the oud as it does on the real Halfeti. The base brings oud, amber and leather, echoing the original's smoky, precious drydown, but with less depth and a shorter lifespan on skin. Where Penhaligon's version builds slowly into a rich, saffron-drenched dark rose with genuine oud complexity, Copycat's take is more one-dimensional and sweeter throughout, prioritising an immediate rose-oud impression over the original's layered development.
