Louis Vuitton's Ombre Nomade is a modern niche icon, celebrated for an enormous, smoky oud built on rose and a surprising jammy raspberry sweetness, with incense and benzoin adding a resinous, almost ceremonial depth. SMEL.' version follows the same structure - rose and raspberry up top, oud and incense at the heart, amber, birch and benzoin underneath - and does capture the recognisable rose-oud-raspberry interplay that makes the original so distinctive. What's lost is scale: Ombre Nomade is famous for its room-filling, hours-long sillage, and this dupe's oud and incense read noticeably softer and less smoky, closer to a pleasant rose-amber than the original's dense, resinous cloud. It's a fair, wearable introduction to the rose-oud genre rather than a faithful match for the designer's signature intensity. Best saved for cold weather, formal events and dates where a bold, dark, slightly sweet oud fits the occasion.
