Jovoy Paris

Historic Parisian house revived as a bold, materials-focused niche brand and boutique.

About Jovoy Paris

Jovoy began life in Paris in 1923, when perfumer Blanche Arvoy created a line of fragrances including four scents presented in animal-shaped bottles. The name itself is a contraction of her nickname “Jo” or “Joe” and “Voy” from her husband Esteban Arvoy’s surname, as noted by brand stockists. The house became known in interwar Paris for bold perfumes and for catering to a fashionable clientele, but production stopped in the early 1960s as tastes and economics changed.

After decades of dormancy, French entrepreneur François Hénin revived Jovoy in the 2000s. The brand’s own site describes Jovoy as a “renaissance” of a Parisian perfume house born in 1923 and forgotten for over 80 years, and states that in 2010 Hénin decided to give it new life as creator and artistic director. The Perfume Society and retailers such as Luckyscent highlight that he chose not to replicate the original formulas but to create contemporary perfumes informed by his travels and love of raw materials.

Today Jovoy operates both as a niche fragrance brand and as a specialist retailer from its flagship on rue de Castiglione near Place Vendôme in Paris. Its collection includes fragrances such as Private Label, Psychedelique, Incident Diplomatique, Fire at Will and Remember Me, often described in reviews as rich, textured compositions with clear character. The line targets perfume enthusiasts comfortable with assertive styles and often prioritises depth and niche aesthetics over mass-market versatility.

Brand Evolution

The original Jovoy of the 1920s to early 1960s produced opulent perfumes that disappeared as the house went dormant. With François Hénin’s revival in the mid-2000s and his formal artistic leadership from 2010, the focus shifted to modern niche perfumery built around high-impact compositions and storytelling. Over time the range has expanded to include more gourmand, tea and amber styles alongside the early leathery and woody signatures, while maintaining a preference for substantial, long-lasting formulas.

Quick Verdict

Jovoy is a serious niche player for those who enjoy rich, assertive compositions and are willing to experiment. If you want discreet, barely-there scent, this house is unlikely to be your first stop.
