A Wye Valley studio making hand-finished, place-led unisex perfumes inspired by Welsh landscape and Celtic tribes

About Wales Perfumery

Wales Perfumery is an independent British niche perfumery founded by Louise Smith in Monmouthshire, in the Wye Valley. Smith worked in the pharmaceutical industry before training as a perfumer in France, Italy and London, and in 2019 she opened her studio in a 500-year-old secret walled garden, starting with perfume-making workshops. The house calls itself Wales' first independent fine fragrance house, and local profiles describe it as the first or only perfume house in Wales.

Every fragrance is formulated, bottled and finished by hand in small batches at the studio. The first collection, Natur, launched in 2022 with Coast (Arfordir), Country (Gwlad) and Forest (Coedwig), drawn from the Welsh coastline, countryside and woodland, and Star (Seren) followed in 2024. The Celts, launched in 2025, gives each fragrance an ancient tribe, from the Silures of south Wales to the Iverni of Ireland, and a Perfume Layering Library followed in 2026. Fragrances are unisex, made with ethically sourced, vegan-friendly ingredients, and branded in English and Welsh.

The style is place-led and moves through landscapes. Coast is salty, with seaweed, lime and driftwood, Forest is woody with fir, cedar and vetiver, and Country is green with grass, narcissus and fig leaf. The Celts go darker and richer: Votadini mixes leather, hay and red wine, Silures sets oak, vanilla and blackberry, and Iverni uses spruce, flint and juniper for a cold, mineral feel.

Wales Perfumery is a small, craft-led house with its own workshops, closer to a studio than a label. It suits wearers who like nature and story-led niche perfume and want something rooted in a place.
