Quelques Fleurs Royale takes the multi-floral architecture of the original and smooths every hard edge off it. Where l'Original opens green and bracing, Royale opens fruity: blackcurrant gives a jammy, faintly tart lift and grapefruit keeps it from turning syrupy, so the first ten minutes read modern rather than antique. The heart is still a proper floral accord, built on jasmine and rose absolutes with violet and tuberose absolute alongside, but the decisive addition is beeswax absolute. That note is what gives Royale its character: a honeyed, slightly waxy warmth that sits under the flowers and rounds them off, so nothing ever gets shrill. The base is deliberately soft, with sandalwood and cedarwood giving structure while vanilla and musk provide a creamy finish that lingers close to the skin. Performance is good rather than enormous.
