Les Bains Guerbois
Parisian niche house turning the eras of the Les Bains spa and nightclub into date-stamped story perfumes.
Les Bains Guerbois is a French niche perfume house based in Paris, directly descended from the historic Les Bains thermal establishment opened in 1885 by François Auguste Guerbois. The building’s story runs from Belle Époque spa to the Les Bains Douches nightclub created in 1978, famous for drawing artists, designers, musicians and fashion figures to its Philippe Starck interiors. In 2015 the site was transformed again into a five-star boutique hotel.
In 2016, owner and heir Jean-Pierre Marois relaunched Les Bains Guerbois as a perfume brand with a signature cologne and a scented candle, created with perfumers Michel Almairac and Dorothée Piot. According to Pitti Fragranze and multiple retail sources, an Eau de Parfum collection followed from 2017 onward, with compositions by perfumers including Dominique Ropion, Fanny Bal, Bertrand Duchaufour, Jérôme Epinette and others. Each fragrance is tied to a specific year in the venue’s history, such as 1885 Bains Sulfureux, 1900 L’Heure de Proust, 1978 Les Bains Douches and 1979 New Wave.
Later expansions include the Formes & Matières collection launched in 2022, which focuses on the materials and architecture of the building itself. Across the line, Les Bains Guerbois uses its address and layered past as the primary creative brief, turning key eras of Parisian nightlife, literature and art into named, dated perfumes that function as chapters in the continuing story of the Les Bains site.
A niche, luxury house known for amber compositions.
The brand began in 2016 with a single signature cologne and a candle directly tied to the newly reopened Les Bains hotel. From 2017 it expanded into a numbered Eau de Parfum line, each referencing a year and episode in the building’s history, effectively mapping the evolution from spa to nightclub to hotel. With the 2022 Formes & Matières collection, Les Bains Guerbois moved beyond pure chronology into more abstract interpretations of the building’s forms and materials, broadening its creative scope while still anchoring everything in the same Paris address.
Les Bains Guerbois is a solid choice if you like moody, story-heavy scents with a nightlife edge and do not mind paying niche prices. If you prefer simple, fresh crowd-pleasers, much of the line will feel too characterful and specific.
