Trussardi
Italian designer brand blending leather-rooted heritage with accessible mainstream fragrances.
Trussardi began in 1911 when Dante Trussardi founded a glove manufactory in Bergamo, Italy, focusing on fine leather gloves for an upscale clientele. The company later supplied gloves to the British royal family and gradually built a reputation in Italian luxury leather goods. A major turning point came in the 1970s under Nicola Trussardi, who transformed the family firm into a broader Milan-based lifestyle and fashion house, adding ready-to-wear clothing and extending the greyhound emblem as the symbol of the brand. By the 1980s and 1990s, Trussardi had expanded internationally, with key markets in Italy and Japan and a growing retail network.
The fragrance line started in 1980 with the first scent simply called "Trussardi," followed by "Trussardi Uomo" in 1983 and "Trussardi Donna" in 1982, which became important pillars of the brand's perfume portfolio. Trussardi fragrances are developed and produced under license, and since 2012 the Trussardi Parfums line has been handled by Angelini Beauty. This partnership has supported a stream of new launches and flankers built around signature names like Trussardi Uomo and Donna, as well as newer compositions bearing the core Trussardi branding.
In recent years, communications around Trussardi Parfums have emphasized modern Italian lifestyle values, highlighting inclusivity, responsibility, and an accessible approach to luxury. Marketing for newer releases such as the contemporary "Trussardi" feminine fragrance focuses on themes of contemporary womanhood and social awareness, while still referencing the house heritage of leather and Milanese sophistication. The combination of an early 20th century glove-making origin, a recognizable greyhound logo, and a mix of classic and updated fragrances gives Trussardi a distinct identity within mainstream designer perfumery.
A designer, mid house known for woody compositions.
Trussardi fragrances in the 1980s, such as the original Donna and Uomo, leaned heavier, richer, and more leather-forward, in line with the era's powerful compositions. Over time, especially after the 2000s and the 2012 licensing with Angelini Beauty, the line has shifted toward cleaner, more versatile eau de toilette and eau de parfum styles with fresher facets and broader mass appeal. Recent launches emphasize contemporary themes like inclusivity and modern femininity while softening the overtly animalic and dense leather signatures of earlier decades.
Trussardi offers reliable, well-priced designer fragrances anchored in Italian leather heritage, more about tasteful everyday wear than boundary-pushing artistry. It is a smart choice if you want understated, vaguely upscale scents without paying luxury-brand premiums.
