Natura
Large Brazilian mass-market brand blending everyday wearability with biodiversity-focused materials.
Natura is a Brazilian cosmetics and fragrance brand founded in 1969 by Antônio Luiz Seabra in São Paulo. Seabra initially opened a small boutique-style shop offering creams and lotions formulated by French chemist Jean-Pierre Berjeaut, with an early focus on naturally derived ingredients. In the early 1970s the company shifted away from traditional retail: in 1974 Natura closed its Oscar Freire street store and adopted a direct sales model, relying on an expanding network of beauty consultants across Brazil.
Over time Natura grew into the core brand of Natura &Co, a global personal care group headquartered in São Paulo that has included Avon and The Body Shop. The company has emphasized sourcing from Brazilian biodiversity and is a founding member of the Union for Ethical BioTrade, committing to conservation, respect for traditional knowledge, and benefit sharing in its supply chains. Natura opened its first international boutique in Paris in 2005 and now distributes fragrances and body products in dozens of countries.
In fragrance, Natura offers an extensive catalog spanning everyday colognes, more concentrated eaux de parfum, and matching body products. Its portfolio covers fresh citrus and aromatic scents suited to tropical climates alongside gourmand, woody, and floral lines, often inspired by Amazonian and other Brazilian raw materials. Many launches are created under the direction of in-house perfumer Verônica Kato, sometimes in collaboration with well-known international perfumers. The brand is widely available and priced for broad access in its home market, while select lines and limited editions target more perfume-focused consumers.
A massmarket, mid house known for fresh citrus compositions.
Natura began as a small boutique brand and pivoted early to a direct-sales model, which shaped its focus on approachable, everyday fragrances for a wide customer base. Over the 1990s and 2000s, the brand expanded its portfolio to hundreds of SKUs, adding more sophisticated eaux de parfum while keeping core colognes affordable. In recent years, Natura has leaned harder into biodiversity storytelling and sustainability metrics, while selectively upgrading formulas, packaging, and international presence to appeal to more fragrance-savvy consumers without abandoning its mass-market roots.
Natura is a smart choice if you want easygoing, climate-appropriate scents with good value and an ethical sourcing story. Serious niche collectors may find the line safe, but for everyday wear it punches above its price.
